Updated August 2026. In a small kitchen, the “best” air fryer is not necessarily the smallest model. You need enough capacity to avoid constant batch cooking without giving away too much permanent counter space.

When a bigger appliance can actually save space
The Breville Smart Oven Air Fryer Pro is physically large, so it is not a compact recommendation. But if it replaces a toaster, toaster oven and separate air fryer, one larger multi-function appliance can sometimes make more sense than three smaller appliances occupying different parts of the kitchen.
Measure before you buy
- Measure counter width and depth.
- Check clearance for pulling the basket fully open.
- Allow ventilation space around the appliance according to the manufacturer.
- Think about where the air fryer will live when it is not in use.
- Compare usable basket floor area, not only quart capacity.
Bottom line
For the smallest kitchens, start compact. For a little more capacity, a single-basket Ninja is easier to justify than a wide dual-zone model. A large oven-style fryer only makes sense when it replaces other countertop appliances.
